Curious Commuter Privacy Policy

Twikia Studios · Updated October 23, 2026

Who we are

Twikia Studios provides Curious Commuter, a commute recorder for people aged 13 and older. This policy explains the information the app handles and your choices. Contact twikiastudios@gmail.com with privacy or deletion requests.

Location and commute recordings

When you start a commute, Curious Commuter collects precise location, timestamps, GPS accuracy, speed, heading and altitude where available. Recording can continue in the background, when the screen is off or the app is not in use, until you stop it. We use these measurements to record your route, estimate distance and travel time, infer travel activities, and display and compare trips. The app also records available accelerometer, gyroscope, step and pressure measurements, route markers, device/battery information, and any notes or trip details you enter. Sensor availability and GPS/transit-map coverage affect the estimates.

Accounts, saved places and reminders

We process your account email or username and account identifier to sign you in and associate cloud recordings with your account. Authentication is provided by Supabase. If you choose social sign-in, the selected provider supplies authentication and basic account information according to its settings. Password authentication is handled by Supabase; account-deletion password verification is sent securely to our Supabase service and is not logged by that endpoint. Saved home/work coordinates, trip direction and optional reminder schedules are stored locally and may be mirrored to account metadata. Reminder notifications are scheduled on your device.

Local storage and cloud processing

The app keeps recordings, settings and calculated trip summaries on your device. Finished signed-in recordings and account metadata are uploaded to Supabase Storage and its database; Supabase functions process them to produce commute analyses. Cloud processing can continue after you close the app. An internet connection is needed for cloud sync, analysis and map data. Clearing the trip cache removes downloaded/calculated local summaries and can cause them to be fetched again. It does not delete your account or your cloud recordings.

Diagnostics and device information

The app records diagnostic logs, crash reports and usage events to help us investigate errors and improve reliability. These can include installation/device identifiers (including Android’s app-scoped device identifier where available), OS and app/update versions, screen information, error messages, recent app activity and details included in logs. This release uploads diagnostics under the signed-in account and stops account uploads during deletion. Signed-out crash reports may remain locally. Older testing releases used device-only telemetry that cannot always be reliably attributed to an account. We do not delete all records associated with a shared device when one account is deleted; contact support to review those older records.

Service providers and other disclosures

We use Supabase for authentication, storage, database services and processing, and Expo/EAS for app update delivery. Map display and transit lookup can use OpenStreetMap, Overpass, CARTO and the device’s geocoding services. Those providers receive the geographic requests and network information needed to return map tiles, places or transit data; map requests may reveal the area of your route. Optional social sign-in and any feedback form you open are handled by the selected provider. We do not include an advertising SDK in this release or sell commute recordings for advertising. We may disclose information when required by law or necessary to investigate misuse and protect the service. Provider privacy practices are governed by their own policies and our service arrangements.

Retention and account deletion

Account recordings, profile information and associated analyses are retained while needed to provide your account and until you delete them or request account deletion; there is no automatic expiry period for all account data. In Account, choose “Delete account and data”, verify ownership, type DELETE and confirm the permanent action. The server determines ownership from your verified sign-in, removes account-owned cloud files and the account with its related commute/analysis records and account-linked diagnostics, and prevents account writes during deletion. The app then removes records belonging to that account from this phone and signs it out. This is permanent and is separate from clearing the cache. If deletion is interrupted, it may have removed some data already; retry or contact support to finish. Shared tester-password accounts must establish a unique password, verify a supported provider, or use the support request process.

What deletion does not automatically remove

Copies you exported or shared outside the app, records cached on another offline device, unassigned legacy/device-only diagnostics, and developer test-bench data without proven account ownership cannot all be removed by the account action on this phone. Sign out and remove local app data from other devices, and contact support for a review of identifiable legacy records. We preserve other accounts’ records, even on the same phone. Deleted operational records can remain in managed backups or security/audit logs for the providers’ configured retention periods or applicable legal obligations. They are not used for normal app features after deletion.

Requests outside the app

You can request deletion without reinstalling or opening Curious Commuter. Email twikiastudios@gmail.com with the subject “Curious Commuter account deletion” and the account email or username. We will verify ownership before deleting anything; do not send your password, access tokens or full commute recordings. You may also ask about access, correction or other privacy rights available under applicable law. The support process is available when automated deletion or account access is unavailable.

Permissions, security and your choices

You can stop recording, revoke location or motion permissions in device settings, turn off reminders, and choose whether to export or share trips. Revoking permissions or signing out does not itself delete previously uploaded data. The app uses HTTPS for cloud requests and account access controls; it does not provide end-to-end encryption or guarantee absolute security. Use a unique account password and protect your device. We do not require contacts, microphone or camera access to record a commute.

Young users and policy changes

Curious Commuter is intended for ages 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact twikiastudios@gmail.com so we can review and remove it as appropriate. Where local law requires parental permission for a young person to use this service, that permission is required. We may update this policy as the app and its providers change; the updated date identifies this version.
